Pilot watch launched
Garmin International has launched the 'D2 Pilot Watch' - claimed to be the first GPS watch for aviators.
The D2 offers a built-in WAAS (or EGNOS etc) GPS, accurate altimeter with adjustable barometric setting and alerts, compass with HSI and moving map. It also has vibrating alerts for the likes of time to switch fuel tanks in-flight.
The watch will also seamlessly integrate with other devices via Bluetooth - including those running the Garmin 'Pilot' app - and the company's action camera.
Hence it is possible to load flight plans and create waypoints. One can also assign custom data fields to display such as ground speed, track, distance, ETA, bearing, glide ratio etc.
Garmin’s VP for Aviation Sales and Marketing comments: '. . an essential piece of equipment for every cockpit. D2 is as rich in style as it is in features, and with the wealth of information it provides, every pilot will want one.'
D2 should be available in November at a price in US of $449 (~£280, €330).
