Scottish Branch

The Scottish Branch has a membership of around 180, from all over Scotland, with very varied interests in many fields of navigation.
The aim is to provide a forum to attract all Scottish RIN Members; to provide an insight into other people's fields of interest and to provide an opportunity to meet interesting people with similar interests. The emphasis is therefore on providing a programme of events that caters to a broad spectrum of interests, to satisfy both professional and amateur navigators in the fields of aviation, marine or land, together with the associated technologies of maps, charts, GPS etc.
The Scottish Branch runs a series of approximately five meetings each winter between October and April to cater for the wide-ranging interests of the members and their guests.
Within that programme there is usually one meeting devoted to a sailing topic and one of interest to those who fly. Additionally there are visits to places of navigational interest. Visits in 2007 included trips to Vosper Thorneycroft and to see HMS Somerset, and in 2008, the Brnach is planning to visit a Northern Lighthouse tender in February, with other visits to be announced. Watch this space for details.
Scottish Branch meetings are generally held at South Queensferry near Edinburgh on a midweek evening, and since the Scottish Branch prides itself on its sociability, meetings are preceded by a bar supper which provides a comfortable and relaxed environment for the introduction of guests.
