A GPS for $80 . .
26th November 2008 |
In the US, Thanksgiving heralds the launch of the Christmas shopping season - and an interesting survey in PCMag.com shows that a GPS can now be bought for as little as $80 (£52 or €62).
Author Craig Ellison has been monitoring GPS prices and has found some great bargains. But he asks just how good are devices below $100? And, if you're willing to pay a little more, how much better can you do for, say, an extra $50 or $100?
The cheapest GPS appears to be a Nextar 3.5-inch X3 model - it includes maps of the US and Canada but lacks text-to-speech.
Pay $10 more and you can have 1.6 million points-of-interest too. And for $100 total you can find text-to-speech thrown in as well - the device will talk to you . .
The article goes on to look at devices costing twice as much. It's interesting reading - but don't rely on these prices translating direct to pounds or euros . .
