Teenager to make circumnavigation
17th November 2008 |
A British teenager is attempting to become the youngest person to sail around the world single handed – at 16 years old.
Michael Perham, from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, made international headlines 2 years ago after becoming the youngest person to travel solo across the Atlantic when he was just 14.
Michael now plans to top that accomplishment. It is estimated that he will be at sea for 4-and-a-half months in his Open 50 racing yacht TotallyMoney.com.
He intends to keep the world updated with progress via a daily blog which will be published on his website - his position can also be tracked online.
The trip is sponsored by VocaLink, TotallyMoney.com and Skechers, with sails provided by Kemp Sails and power generation by Mastervolt. Money raised will be donated to Save the Children and the Tall Ships Youth Trust.
Michael left Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Quays at 1100 on 15 November.
We wish him a successful and safe journey.
