Aircraft collide in circuit
18th August 2008 |
At around 1140 BST on 17 August, 2 aircraft collided in the circuit area of Coventry Airport. All 5 on board both aircraft were killed and both aircraft written-off.
It appears that a twin-engined Cessna 402 was on 5-mile finals to the airport when an unspecified single-engined aircraft - possibly a microlight - hit it from the side. The aircraft were probably at around 1,500 ft agl.
The single-engined single-pilot aircraft broke up immediately abd fell into the grounds of a hotel at Coombe Abbey. The C-402, with 4 on board, fell into Brandon Woods.
Visibility is reported to have been good.
The airport - used by both commercial and general aviation - was closed for a time after the accident.
