Report on GPS dependency

A revealing US report, 'GPS Dependencies in the Transportation Sector', has been shared by Mitch Narins FRIN.

The report - 'An Inventory of Global Positioning System Dependencies in the Transportation Sector, Best Practices for Improved Robustness of GPS Devices and Potential Alternative Solutions for Positioning, Navigation and Timing' - was produced for the US Office of Space Commercialisation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), by the John A Volpe National Transportation Systems Center. It was actually published 'in the interest of information exchange' in August 2016, but has only just come to light for most of the navigation and timing community.

After an Introduction, the report covers:
- Identification of GPS Dependencies in the Transportation Sector
- Improving the Robustness of GPS Receiver Installations
- Alternative Solutions for PNT Data

The report comprises 68 pages crammed with descriptions, tables, diagrams and pictures, and makes a comprehensive read for anyone - beginner or expert - with an interest in any form of global navigation satellite system (GNSS) for all modes of transport. It may be viewed and downloaded at the link below . .

This is not the 'original' 2001 Volpe report that first highlighted such problems.
