A US company is offering 15% reduction in vehicle insurance for companies monitoring their drivers through GPS. To improve driver safety for commercial vehicle customers, the 'Travelers' insurance company is offering the discount on premiums for businesses that use telematics technology to monitor their commercial fleets and driver behaviour.A recent study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) for the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) found that monitoring driving behaviour management systems - using in-vehicle telematics - could result in a significant reduction in risky driving behaviour.Businesses using telematics will receive information about driver behaviour, vehicle routing and fuel efficiency. The information should help to reduce risk and minimise costs - fleet managers will have the feedback necessary to engage drivers about their driving performance and provide coaching on improving safety. To qualify for a discount, businesses must show that they have installed telematics devices in a sufficient number of their vehicles and that they are actively incorporating safety information from the devices into safety feedback to driver - at least on a quarterly basis. So look out for courteous white-van drivers . .Details from 'Travelers' below:
