Human and Drosophila Cryptochromes Are Light Activated by Flavin Photoreduction in Living Cells SIG News

Vision in animals is generally associated with light-sensitive rhodopsin pigments located in the eyes. However, animals ranging from flies to humans also possess ancient visual receptors known as cryptochromes in multiple cell types. In this work, we study the mechanism of light sensing in two representative animal cryptochromes: a light-sensitive Drosophila cryptochrome (Dmcry) and a presumed light-insensitive mammalian cryptochrome from humans (Hscry1).

TopNav SIG News

Join in the fun and enter the TopNav 30 challenge, taking place at White Waltham.

Hosted by the West London Aero Club, TopNav provides a challenge to crews irrespective of their navigational experience and is open to crews of GA aircraft, motor gliders, microlights and helicopters, with the route appropriately adapted.

Up to 30 crews can experience two hours of exhilarating flying in pursuit of good training, trophies and cash prizes. Once again, landing fees for competitors taking part have been waived.
