About Marine Traffic & Navigation Group

The Marine Traffic & Navigation Group is the RIN's conduit to the national and international community for professional seafarers.

This Group encourages contact between those interested in marine traffic on a worldwide basis.  It monitors, advises and reports with a view to safety at sea.

The Group concerns itself with:

  • all aspects of marine traffic safety and research, including vessel traffic services
  •  collision regulations
  • ship routeing
  • AIS
  • navigation in general.

Interests range from the production of new equipment through to its safe operation. 

The Group produces a twice yearly newsletter, together with the Small Craft Group, and maintains strong links with other organisations in the field.  These include governmental connections, marine study groups, progress at IMO and foreign interests.
