Benefits of Membership

Each category of membership has its own range of benefits, tailored to different needs.

Ordinary Membership

This has a core benefits package, including:

  • Membership of any or all Special Interest Groups, each one dedicated to debate, networking, and developing influence in a particular field of navigation.
  • Access to a wide range of local or specialised events, competitions, seminars etc, often free, but always at a reduced rate.
  • Access to a wide range of national events and conferences run by the RIN at a reduced rate.
  • Access to some other national events including Boat and Flying shows at specially-negotiated RIN-Member rates.
  • Subscription to the world-renowned Journal of Navigation, showcasing the latest scientific research in all navigation fields - four issues per year in full colour.
  • Subscription to the Institute's popular bimonthly magazine, Navigation News, including exclusive features covering the whole spectrum of navigation topics.
  • Participation in annual RIN competitions at reduced rates.
  • Access to the Members' Area on this website, which includes:
  • Free downloads from the Journal of Navigation electronic archive (back to 1948)
  • Free downloads from the Navigation News electronic archive
  • Free online reservations from the Cundall Library of Navigation - one of Britain's largest navigation-specific collections.
  • Free access to the RIN's online forums, to further debate, planning and networking.
  • Coming Soon - the ability to upload details to an Experts Directory, to put members and companies in touch
  • A range of other tangible discounts, such as:
  • Discounts on HCMA medical insurance.
  • A 50% discount on access to the Royal Geographical Society archives. 
  • Full voting rights within the RIN and the right to hold office.
  • Use of the letters 'MRIN' after the Member's name.

AFRINs

These Members on the other hand get all the Ordinary Member benefits, and get to use the 'AFRIN' letters after their name.

Associate Members

These get all the Individual Member benefits, except they don't receiver the Journal of Navigation, can join only one Special Interest Group, and may not vote or hold office within the RIN.

Student Members

These are Individual Members who may not vote, hold office or use the 'MRIN' letters after their name.

Junior Associates

These Members have similar restrictions to Associate Members, but they also may not serve on the RIN's committees.

Corporate Members

This class of Membership have additional benefits, including:

  • Discounted delegate places at RIN conferences and other events.
  • And a 10% discount on all advertising in Navigation News and free job adverts on the website.
  • Spread the word of your achievements with your own page on our website, your own news and your own events added to our calendar.
  • Nominate up to six Corporate Delegates

Small Business Members

This class of Membership have additional benefits, including:

  • Discounted delegate places at RIN conferences and other events.
  • And a 10% discount on all advertising in Navigation News and free job adverts on the website.
  • Spread the word of your achievements with your own page on our website, your own news and your own events added to our calendar.
  • Nominate up to three Corporate Delegates.

Afffiliated Colleges or Universities

  • Get up to 10 full Student Memberships, plus one free Individual Membership for the staff organiser.
  • Coming Soon - the ability to advertise courses on the website.

Affiliated Clubs

These get the equivalent of three Ordinary Memberships.
