The Scottish Branch programme for the coming winter features three very interesting and very different topics.

7 October Thursday 1100
National Museum of Flight, East Fortune Airfield, East Lothian.
CONQUERING THE ATLANTIC; BY AIRSHIP TO AMERICA

On 2 July, 1919, the giant R34 airship departed from East Fortune, en route for Mineola, New York, on the first ever return flight across the Atlantic and the first east-west crossing by air.
Coming just a few weeks after Alcock and Brown's record-breaking west-east ‘plane flight, the 6,000 mile trip was a huge story on both sides of the Atlantic.

Meet for coffee in the café, 1000 for 1030. Lunch in the café following the lecture, with the afternoon for exploring the rest of the East Fortune exhibitions, including of course Concorde.

Graham is head of production at the Ordnance Survey, was based in Scotland for many years, and is an expert on the west coast and the Hebrides. He is also an experienced mountaineer and has climbed in many of the world’s great ranges.
