UKHO completes mapping of China's coast
In May, the UK Hydrographic Office completed official electronic navigation chart (ENC) coverage of China.
In total, it has now released 375 Chinese ENCs - covering the huge area of Chinese coastal waters and all the country’s major ports, including Shanghai, Shenzhen and Qingdao. All the new charts are available through the UKHO’s Admiralty Vector Chart Service (AVCS).
The HO's partner in the development of the charts has been the Chinese Naval Guarantee Department (NGD).
When Institute Corporate Member UKHO launched AVCS, it committed to delivering 10,000 ENCs and 2,000 global ports by 2012 - but it has hit that target already. Today, AVCS provides official berth-to-berth coverage between 2,165 trading ports worldwide and 10,613 charts.
