Results of the GLAs AtoN Review 2015 published

The results of the Review were published yesterday, following a briefing by the three GLAs at the annual GLAs' Joint User Consultative Group meeting,

The Review, which contains information on the review process, background information and factors relevant to the Review, as well as details of the intended changes to the individual aids to navigation maintained by the three GLAs, as a result of this latest Review.

As in previous Reviews, the coasts of the UK and Ireland have been broken down into 21 Areas:

Northern Lighthouse Board: Areas 1 - 8
Trinity House: Areas 9 - 14
Commissioners of Irish Lights: Areas 15 - 21

In addition to detailing the intended alterations to the AtoN arising from this Review, the document also contain a useful summary of all the changes that have been made to their AtoN that were carried out outside of the 2010-2014 AtoN Review Process. For instance, those arising from surveys, marking new dangers, changing traffic patterns and other changes in technology.

The Review also contains useful coverage diagrams showing the roll out of AIS stations, racons, the DGPS system and the existing and proposed Renewable Energy Sites, including the proposed extensive, large and small wind site areas offshore and wave and tidal sites.
