Augmented reality driving launched
Korean company 'Thinkware' has developed an in-car navigation system with imbedded augmented reality technology.
The new 'iNavi X1' lets the driver view the actual image of the road ahead - as well as seeing a range of useful traffic information - in a system combining augmented reality (AR) with an advanced driving assistance system (ADAS).
The 'Extreme AR' within the system claims to provide realistic road images and route information, and comes with ADAS functionality that includes a lane departure warning system - a function that, the company explains, has hitherto been reserved for 'high-priced import models'.
As well as telling the driver to change lanes well before making turns, it also indicates major features of the road with different colour schemes, including slow-driving areas and camera surveillance intervals.
The iNavi X1 also contains other advanced features such as 'Extreme Air 3D' (a real 3D map) and 'Drone View' (an aerial view of the road).
The iNavi X1 has been launched this month. The Thinkware President comments 'The iNavi X1 embodies 17 years of technical know-how, and we’d like to lead the navigator market in the new year.'
