Free Bluetooth bracelets
A sun-screen advertisement in a magazine contains a free tear-off bracelet for tracking a child on the beach.
The Brazilian weekly magazine Veja contains the Nivea advertisement for 'SUN Kids', which includes a tear-off bracelet made of water-resistant paper and holding a Bluetooth beacon.
The ad prompts readers to download an iOS or Android mobile app and to connect it to the bracelet - they would then be able to monitor the whereabouts of their child on the beach.
Using Bluetooth 4.0, the app monitors the bracelet to a distance of about 30 meters. An alarm can be set if the child goes beyond a distance set in the app.
The Bluetooth sticker itself is made by US company StickNFind - see link below. It lasts up to 1 year, based on 30 minute-a-day use, using a replaceable watch battery.
The app will work with iOS devices (iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, new iPad, New Touch, mini iPad) and Android devices from Samsung (Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Mini and Note 2).
