Motorcycle HUD launched

A comprehensive head-up display helmet showing navigation and blind spot data has been introduced in the US.

The Skully P-1 display shows a rear-view camera output with a 180º viewing angle as well as GPS-driven directions on a combined head-up display (HUD).

The display is positioned outside the rider's primary field-of-view, appearing ~6 meters distant - hence, the rider can see the road ahead without any obstruction from the graphics.

There are 2 versions of the map display that the rider can toggle as needs change:
- a simplified view which shows at the base of the rear-view camera display
- a more detailed interface for more complicated driving directions

With 180º viewing angle, the camera can see behind and to both sides - the makers explaining that the visual information is rendered in a way that is easy to see and understand on the display. They claim that this provides an unprecedented level of situational awareness.

Bluetooth pairing and voice control can be used with a mobile device while riding - allowing management of the interface by voice. Hence the wearer can control music, send texts, make calls and change destination hands-free.

The battery lasts for 9 hours of continuous use, with re-charging via a standard micro-USB cable.
