Inertial developments

The US Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems (AUVSI) annual event saw some spectacular advances.

New types of inertial measurement unit (IMU) at the AUVSI 2013 show were smaller and more sensitive than ever.

IMUs are critical for the likes of drones - the subject of the show - but are also important in consumer and professional markets as micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) technology makes IMUs practical for lower cost, mobile applications.

An excellent résumé of state-of-the-art MEMS technology at the event can be found at the Electronic Design link below.

The link is highlighted by Michelle David in the Institute's LinkedIn forum below - it is well worth joining.
