OS bespoke maps launched

Avoid a ‘life on the edge’ with new custom-made maps from Institute Corporate Member Ordnance Survey.

Map owners now can avoid having to operate at and over the edges of sheets by selecting their own map centres (the author's home is just 6 cm - or 1.5 km - from the edge of the local Explorer map).

The OS Explorer and Landranger Map series of maps both now include customisable versions. The 'Custom Made' versions allow anyone to select their own map area, choose their own title and pick an individual cover image from a selection of photographs.

Matching the existing look and feel of the OS Explorer (1:25 000) and Landranger (1:50 000) maps, the custom-made versions are of the same quality and detail to which users are accustomed. A new production process sees them printed on the same paper as their standard ‘off-the-shelf’ ones - making them thinner, tougher and easier to fold.

The new maps allow anyone to go online and select their own special location to centre the map - such as their home, town or favourite walk. The maps are specially printed to order, including the customers' own personal title as well as a choice of cover photograph.

The customer can choose to have the map delivered folded or flat and with or without a cover - so that it can be easily used outdoors or framed as a print.

OS’s Director General comments 'Maps are a fantastic tool that can help you discover the world around you. However, you can sometimes face the problem of having a favourite walk or cycle path that runs over more than one map sheet. Our custom-made mapping service solves that problem by allowing you to centre the map wherever you like.'

The maps are a practical option for outdoor enthusiasts as well as fantastic gifts - especially to get the young map-reading.

The OS custom-made maps cost £16.99 - although look out for special launch offers. They are available from the link below . .
