Phone pic locates casualty
An injured man was rescued in the Lake District after a companion sent a photo of their location to a mountain rescue team.
Two men had been to the summit of Scafell Pike and had been walking for an hour when one of them suffered a tumble fall and injured his head and arm
The companion of the casualty was unable to give their location, and attempts to get him to describe it proved difficult - so eventually he was asked to send a picture of the view from the location by mobile phone. The area was then quickly identified.
Because of the potentially serious injuries from the 25-metre tumble, a RAF helicopter from Boulmer was requested and the casualty was airlifted to Whitehaven Hospital.
The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team leader explained that trying to locate the men was like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but having a photo really clinched it - it really did help.
Twenty-seven members of the Wasdale team were involved in the rescue.
