The RIN SCG Visit to the Irish Lights HQ in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin will be an event not to be missed. BOOKINGS NOW OPEN.
This is the first time that the Small Craft Group has arranged a visit for members and their guests outside of the UK. As well as being of interest to Irish Branch members, it is hoped that other RIN members will also take the opportunity to participate in this historic visit.
The Irish Lights HQ in Dun Laoghaire is 20km from Dublin airport and can be reached by either bus or Dart train from Dublin City centre. The airport is serviced by Dublin Bus routes (41, 41a, 41b, 41c) which will take you into the city centre where you can transfer onto the bus or the Dart to Dun Laoghaire. The DART runs every 5 minutes during rush hour periods and every 20 mins during the day. Alternatively, catch the Aircoach - Route 703 - direct from the airport to Dun Laoghaire (the Royal Marine Hotel stop on Marine Road is a few minutes walk from the Irish Lights HQ).
Provisional programme for this visit:
0950 - Arrive at Irish Lights HQ, Harbour Road, Dun Laoghaire
1000 - Welcome and Introduction
1020 - Presentation on CIL’s new Corporate Strategy
1045 - Tour of HQ including Ops Room
1140 - Presentation and demonstration of the use of AIS and Twitter for promulgation of live MetOcean data from CIL’s aids to navigation
1200 - Presentation on Rescue 116 Operations
1220 - Tour of the Buoy Yard
1315 - Lunch (payable locally)
1435 - Visit to ILV Granuaile (subject to service commitments).
A visit to the Maritime Museum in Dun Loaghaire will be arranged if ILV Granule is not available and there is insufficient time to visit the CIL Lighthouse Museum at Baily
1700 - Latest departure.
There is no charge for this visit to Irish Lights HQ. However, prior registration is required. Members may bring guests.
